Scrap Shakers were the solution. Gestamp had problems with scrap removal on the 5M wide moving bolster press. Scrap was dropping into the base of the press and causing downtime. Many solutions were tried but only when they used the Multi tray scrap shakers from Premitec did there problems become resolved. Prior to the bolster being removed from the press the electrical supply is disconnected. Individual trays are used for each press tool, however some trays are common. Engineers were concerned that the weight of the scrap trays would be a problem for the scrap shaker. But, due to the power shaft connected to the gearbox, which extended to both ends of the shaker, adequate power is transferred to either end thus providing power where it is needed… along the length of the scrap tray mounting beam.

The engineers developed the ‘dog leg’ scrap trays which allow the scrap to corner at 30 degrees. The Gestamp engineers found the ability to transport scrap through a 30 degree trays was most beneficial. Movement of scrap around pillars and bushes aid the ability to remove the scrap efficiently Something they couldn’t do with belt conveyor. With no conveyor belts to fail, the system has proved to be successful.

The Gearbox used in this 5 meter scrap shaker is the same as that used in a standard unit for transport of material using one tray only.
